The words "university" and "college" have different meanings in different countries. In Canada, universities are institutions that can grant degrees. They typically focus more on academic and professional programs. All universities offer 3-year or 4-year undergraduate programs (bachelor's degrees), and many also offer post-graduate study options (Master's and doctorate degrees). These programs can be taken on a full-time, online, or part-time basis.
Meanwhile, colleges are more trade or career-oriented. A student can obtain a full-time, part-time or distance-learning diploma and certificate from a college. A certificate program generally takes 1 year or less, and a diploma study will last around 2 or 3 years.
Universities and colleges are also collectively termed "Schools" and "Institutions".
